What are Dentures?
Full dentures consist of a complete set of prosthetic teeth mounted on a pink acrylic base that resembles gum tissue. They are custom-made to fit your mouth precisely, ensuring comfort and ease of use. The benefits of full dentures include improved chewing ability, enhanced speech, and the restoration of facial appearance, which can sometimes be affected by tooth loss.
Designing your dentures
Our dentures are custom-made for each patient, in our own laboratory, and they are designed to look and function as naturally as possible.
When creating the dentures, your input is important. Once all the measurements are recorded, at the try-in stage, you get to visually evaluate the aesthetics of the denture - checking the shape, colour and alignment of the teeth. We will only proceed to finalizing the denture once you are happy with your new smile.

Dentures play a crucial role in the aesthetics of a person's smile and overall facial appearance. When individuals lose teeth, it can significantly affect their confidence and self-esteem. High-quality dentures are designed not only for functionality but also to enhance the natural beauty of a person's smile.
They can be tailored to match the color and shape of natural teeth. This customization helps create a more harmonious appearance, allowing individuals to smile with confidence. Additionally, well-fitted dentures support facial structure, preventing the sunken look often associated with missing teeth, thus contributing to a more youthful appearance.
The aesthetics of dentures are essential for those who aim to maintain or regain their oral health while also looking their best. At Clinical Smiles Denture Clinic, our commitment to personalized service ensures that each patient receives dentures that not only fit comfortably but also enhance their facial features, promoting a natural and attractive smile.

Dentures play a crucial role in enhancing chewing efficiency for individuals who have lost their natural teeth. By providing a stable and functional replacement, dentures allow users to enjoy a broader range of foods. Properly fitted dentures improve bite force and stability, making it easier to chew various textures, from soft foods to more challenging options like nuts or tough meats.
When a denture is tailored to fit securely and comfortably, it minimizes slipping during chewing, thereby enhancing the overall eating experience. This not only boosts the enjoyment of meals but also contributes to improved nutrition and oral health.

Dentures can play a significant role in reducing bone loss in the jaw. When natural teeth are lost, the underlying bone can begin to deteriorate due to lack of stimulation. This process, known as resorption, occurs because the bone requires the pressure and load that teeth provide to maintain its strength and volume.
By wearing good fitting dentures, patients can help maintain the shape and structure of their jawbone. Dentures provide a new surface for chewing, which can stimulate the jaw and encourage the preservation of bone tissue. Full or partial dentures fill the space left by missing teeth, which can help distribute forces more evenly across the jaw when eating.
Furthermore, well-fitted dentures can assist in improving oral health overall, as they can help restore functionality, making it easier to eat a balanced diet. This can ultimately contribute to improved nutrition, which is essential for bone health.
Regular adjustments and follow-up visits to ensure proper fit are important, as ill-fitting dentures can lead to further complications, including additional bone loss. Therefore, choosing high-quality, personalized dentures is crucial for maintaining both oral health and bone density.
Benefits of Dentures
Conventional Dentures or Immediate Dentures?
Sometimes when teeth extractions are imminent due to decay or gum disease, patients often have to consider two primary options: conventional dentures and immediate dentures. The main reason for choosing immediate dentures is the fact that these dentures are fitted immediately after the teeth are extracted, thus the patient doesn’t have to go toothless for any amount of time.
CONVENTIONAL DENTURES
These types of dentures are made approximately 3-6 months post extractions, once the gums have healed.
Advantages:
Teeth will be set in the ideal position, determined by your gum line;
With a fully healed mouth, the dentures can be crafted to accommodate the shape and contours of the gums and bone structure, leading to improved aesthetics and stability.
A reline may not be required;
More cost effective than Immediate Dentures.
Disadvantages:
The process of making conventional requires the extraction sites to be fully healed, thus the patient will be toothless for a period of several weeks/ months.
IMMEDIATE DENTURES
These types of dentures are inserted at the time of the extraction, and ideally they should only be temporary.
Advantages:
they provide a quick solution for patients who are concerned about aesthetics and functionality immediately after tooth loss.
Most times they help speed up the healing process by keeping pressure on the extraction sites;
Disadvantages:
As the gums heal and change shape, these dentures may require adjustments, as they can become loose or uncomfortable over time
They will require a reline approximately 3 months post extraction;
Since immediate dentures are created before the extraction, they may not fit as well as conventional dentures once the gums have healed fully.
They are more expensive.
Choosing between conventional and immediate dentures ultimately depends on individual needs and preferences. Patients should consult with their dental professional to determine the best option based on their specific circumstances and the condition of their oral health. Both types of dentures can restore functionality and improve quality of life, making the selection an important decision in dental care.
