Denture repairs can often be done on the same day. It is best not to try and glue the denture together as this can lead to complications when bringing it into our clinic.

In most cases our clinician will be able to restore your broken or cracked denture to its original state. There are many reasons why a repair may be needed: if one or more teeth have broken off, teeth or acrylic are chipped, a clasp is broken, if one or more teeth need to be added to your denture, if the denture is snapped in two or simply because of wear and tear.

How to prevent dentures from breaking

  • Handle dentures carefully at all times as they are very fragile. They can be slippery and can easily fall out of your hands.

  • Wash dentures over a towel or bowl of water. In case they accidentally slip out of your hands in the process, by doing this you minimize the chances of them breaking

  • Clean your dentures daily with a denture brush. Avoid using harsh chemicals or hot water. Soak them in a denture-cleaning solution at least once a week

  • Avoid eating hard or sticky foods

  • Cut food into smaller pieces and chew it carefully

  • Stay hydrated

  • Store dentures in water when not in use. This prevents the from drying out and becoming brittle and more prone to breaking

  • Schedule regular check-ups with your clinician to assess the fit and condition of your denture

  • If they are becoming loose, there is a higher chance of them breaking. It could also be a sign that they need to be relined.
